Vertical Directional Blocks

Details the VLS vertical directional blocks, supporting capacities from 1.1 to 11 UStons. The document outlines dimensional matrices for both standard bronze and high-speed bearing variants.

Vertical Precision Redirection: Vertical Directional Blocks

Vertical Directional Blocks are specialized rigging components designed to change the path of wire rope in a vertical plane. These blocks feature a robust, upright mounting frame with a four-bolt base, making them ideal for secure attachment to vertical surfaces or structural supports in maritime and industrial environments.

Engineering Excellence and Safety
  • Structural Safety Integrity: Every unit is engineered with a Minimum Ultimate Strength equal to four times the Working Load Limit (4 X WLL).
  • Load Rating Specification: The stated Working Load Limit (WLL) is specifically calculated based on a 180° rope wrap.
  • Operational Sensitivity: Users should be aware that the Factor of Safety (FoS) may decrease under different loading conditions or alternative wrap angles.
  • Integrated Secure Mounting: Each block is equipped with a precision-drilled base for secure four-point mounting ( H).
Technical Performance and Configuration
  • Bearing Versatility: Available with Bronze Bushings for high-load durability or Ball/Cylindrical Roller Bearings for enhanced rotational efficiency.
  • Broad Capacity Range: Standard models cover Working Load Limits (WLL) from 1.1 UStons up to 11.0 UStons.
  • Extensive Rope Compatibility: Designed to accommodate standard wire rope diameters ranging from 3/8″ up to 15/16″.
  • Precision Manufacturing: Standard sheave diameters range from 4.92 inches to 15.75 inches to ensure proper bend radii for indicated wire sizes.

Vertical Directional Block Technical Specifications

The following data represents the VLS series. Dimensions and weights vary based on the selected bearing type (Bronze vs. Ball/Roller).

Safety Warning: Ensure the Working Load Limit (WLL) is never exceeded. Minimum Ultimate Strength is 4 X WLL. Refer to pages 136 and 138-149 for critical warning and safety information prior to use.
