Horizontal Directional Blocks

Provides specifications for HLS directional blocks (1.1 to 11 UStons) with bronze or ball/roller bearings. Designed for wire rope routing with a 180° wrap-valid capacity.

Precision Line Redirection: Horizontal Directional Blocks

Horizontal Directional Blocks are specialized rigging components designed to change the direction of a wire rope in a horizontal plane. Engineered for low-profile mounting, these blocks feature a flat-base design with four bolt holes for secure attachment to deck surfaces or structural frames. They are primarily used in maritime, industrial, and towing applications where reliable line redirection is required under significant tension.

Engineering and Safety Standards
  • Structural Safety Factor: Each block is manufactured to provide a Minimum Ultimate Strength of four times the Working Load Limit (4 X WLL).
  • Load Rating Specifics: The indicated Working Load Limit (WLL) is valid specifically at a 180° rope wrap.
  • Operational Caution: The Factor of Safety (FoS) may decrease in other loading conditions or different angles of wrap.
  • Mounting Stability: The block features a robust rectangular baseplate with four precision-drilled mounting holes ( H) to ensure stability during high-tension redirects.
Performance Components and Customization
  • Versatile Bearing Options: Available with either Bronze Bushings for high-load, low-speed applications or Ball/Cylindrical Roller Bearings for increased rotational efficiency.
  • Extensive Capacity Range: Standard models support Working Load Limits (WLL) from 1.1 UStons up to 11.0 UStons.
  • Wire Rope Compatibility: Designed to accommodate wire rope sizes ranging from 3/8″ up to 15/16″.
  • Durable Finish: Typically supplied in a protective blue coating to withstand harsh industrial and maritime environments.

Horizontal Directional Block Technical Specifications

The following table provides technical data for the HLS series. Note that the WLL refers to the load limit on the head fitting at a 180° wrap.

Safety Warning: Always strictly adhere to the rated Working Load Limit (WLL). The Minimum Ultimate Strength is rated at 4 X WLL. Before installation or operation, consult the comprehensive warning and safety guidelines on page 136 and pages 138-149.
