Flag Directional Blocks

Outlines the FLS series for directional routing (1.1 to 11 UStons), specifying WLL at 180° wrap and 0° swing for reliable wire rope management.

Dynamic Line Management: Flag Directional Blocks

Flag Directional Blocks (FLS Series) are specialized rigging components engineered to provide flexible line redirection. Unlike fixed directional blocks, flag blocks are designed to pivot or “swing,” allowing the block to align naturally with the load’s direction. This pivoting capability makes them ideal for maritime and industrial applications where the lead angle of the wire rope may change during operation

Safety and Structural Integrity
  • Design Factor: These blocks are engineered with a Minimum Ultimate Strength equal to four times the Working Load Limit (4 X WLL).
  • Load Rating Conditions: The indicated Working Load Limit (WLL) is valid specifically under conditions of a 180° rope wrap and 0° swing.
  • Operational Caution: Users must be aware that the Factor of Safety (FoS) may decrease under alternative loading conditions or different angles of wrap and swing.
  • Secure Installation: Each unit is designed for robust mounting using a four-bolt base configuration ( H) to ensure stability.
Technical Performance and Configuration
  • Bearing Options: Available with either Bronze Bushings for high-load durability or Ball/Cylindrical Roller Bearings for increased rotational efficiency.
  • Extensive Capacity Range: Standard models cover Working Load Limits from 1.1 UStons up to 11.0 UStons.
  • Rope Compatibility: Designed to accommodate wire rope diameters ranging from 3/8″ up to 15/16″.
  • Precision Sheaves: Standard sheave diameters (D1) range from 4.92 inches to 15.75 inches to maintain proper bend radii.

Flag Directional Block (FLS Series) Technical Specifications

The following table highlights specifications for the FLS series. WLL refers to the load limit on the head fitting under standard conditions.

Safety Warning: Always strictly adhere to the rated Working Load Limit (WLL). Minimum Ultimate Strength is 4 X WLL. Ratings are based on specific wrap and swing angles; deviations may compromise safety. Consult the full warning and safety information on page 136 and pages 136-148.
